Tropical Taco in Hanalei

I got the Baja fish tacos and they were really tasty, if a little messy to eat. The service was great, the girl behind the counter was friendly and our food arrived quickly. I recommend trying it out.

Food was okay. We both ordered the fish burrito and the fish itself was good, but the beans seemed a little lacking in flavor. The hot sauce was indeed hot though so my husband was pretty happy about that! The portions we're good sized and we saved part of our meal for a snack later. Service was great and friendly, and we'd probably go back just for the great friendly service! Also, there prices were different than what's listed on Google, our fish burritos were $15 each, not $11. All all a good experience, but we have had better food on the island.

Excellent food and a cool setting to dine on the porch watching the world go by. Each item is cooked to order so relax and enjoy the vib. The fish taco was fresh, delicious and a good serving size.

I was there for lunch just a couple of days ago. I am from Iowa on vacation! And this is so close to my resort and it is worth the time and money to eat here! I am going back before I leave for home. Awesome place!!

One of the last places around still serving Taro fries and boy are they amazing. Fish and chips blow you away, especially with some Kauai hot sauce

Best tacos on the island. Period. We were in Kauai for 9 days and I tried almost every taco joint on the island. Fish is fresh daily along with the house salsa and house made chips. Can’t go wrong with the refried beans either (my wife loved them). Stop in and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. Roger (the owner) is just as great as his food!

When your in the Hanalei area. Tropical Taco is killing the game of Fresh Fish Tacos! If 'Rodger' is there he will definitely straight fill your belly with whatever the Fresh catch of the day is!!! Never pass by without getting Fresg Fish Tacos! Will not disappoint!!

My meat-eater partner classified this as the best fish taco he's ever had. They also have decent vegetarian options.

This place is fantastic. Some of the best fried fish tacos I've ever had. Get extra white sauce and ask for the bottle of hot salsa, these sauces make the Baja plate outstanding. Ate here 3 times during my 9 day stay on Kauai and was never disappointed (as long as they had fish in stock).

Great food prepared on the spot, comes out so hot you got to wait a minute before you can eat. We're have been here twice and food is delicious. No restrooms, though. Cash only.

Everything was great! Until the waitress that was there got upset about my dad asking for guac when she brought out salsa instead. He was very respectful and the waitress walked into the back and screamed, “Why is everyone being so rude to me today, talking to me like i’m dead or something!” which was completely out of hand since we had all been very respectful. She then brought out guac in a small ketchup container instead of the normal container because she was upset. I will never be returning here!

Tried while on vacation and it was amazing! My husband got the tropical taco which is HUGE and I got the fish taco plate (catch of the day) fish is crispy and savory. Portions are great. Averaging about $15/plate. Everything tastes fresh and delicious.

Of all the fish tacos I've ever had, these were nowhere near the top of my list, even on the island of Kauai. It was near where we were staying, but if you want good fish tacos, I recommend Tiki Tacos. These were over loaded and the fish didn't taste fresh. It was shredded either, the fish was just cooked in long square sticks (that looked too much like the fish sticks of my youth for my comfort) and thrown right in the tortilla as is - not shredded and seasoned evenly or anything like that. The taste was not authentic at all. While their portions are big, this place is kinda like the greasy burger joint of tacos. I honestly can't recommend it when there are such good LEGIT fish tacos to be had on the island.

The owner was super nice, gave us so much free avocado, and the food was all delicious! Highly recommend the fish tacos.

Best fish taco ever!! Baja tacos killed it, we've been back several times, can't go wrong. Homemade salsa is fire!!! A little heat, lot of flavor, and lots of love!

Found this little gem after a full morning visiting a botanical garden. I had the crispy spicy shrimp with a lilikoi iced tea, and my wife had their chili chicken. The shrimp had a great crunch to them and it was smothered in their tasty sauce. It also came with rice that was cooked perfectly and a scoop of their macaroni salad which they had recommended to me. The macaroni was surprisingly good too as it had lots of fresh raw garlic in it which even gave it a bit of spice. I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great meal that won’t break the bank.

Really good deep fried fish tacos. Decent sides, too. Only one hot sauce available and it's not great, though (bring your own?)

We usually come here at least once per trip. The fried fish tacos are good and it’s usually pretty chill out on the deck, watching people drive by. That being said, I feel like their prices went up at some point in the last year or two and they were already pretty steep to begin with. Hence, the single visit per trip. I think it’s a little bit of Hawaii pricing and a little bit of Hanalei Bay pricing. Good stuff, but not good enough for more than once a trip!

I love fish tacos. Tried this place randomly 10 years ago and it was amazing! Went there again today and the fish tacos are still one of the best I've ever had (if not THE best).

Fantastic! We ordered the fish taco baja plate, grilled fish burrito and fish & taro root fries. The fresh fish was ono and is prepared grilled or beer-battered. Everything is prepared fresh after you order. Great spicy salsa and refried beans as well. We will return!

Great meal for a good price. Parking in back of building.Tropical Taco was originally a green food truck beginning in the 1970s. The truck has transitioned to a restaurant. The restaurant has a full wall painting of the green truck with wheels and other parts matching the original truck. AND the owner of the original truck is now the restaurant owner and still cooks the terrific Tropical Taco food. We eat meals from the truck in 1984 and from the restaurant in 2020.

Tropical Taco serves the Very Best fish tacos. Like any high end cut of steak or fish, get them grilled. When you come to Hanalei go here first because you’ll want to go back again. They could be priced way more and would still be a great deal. This ant no jive!

Super nice guy runs the place! He made us food even when he didn’t have to - we came at about 7:45 ahead of an 8 p.m. closing. The Fish Tropical Taco was amazing, salsa was fresh and it was affordable to boot. Definitely recommend this place!

The fish tacos here were good and the service was quick and solid. If you’re gluten free, you can ask for corn tortillas. The flour tortillas are pretty great though and freshly made.

From the south , all we eat is Mexican food. Weak salsa had no flavor. The taco meat was also bland and prices are high even for Kauai. The food isn't good, isn't bad... BUT definitely not worth waiting 40 min for one taco.

This place believes in quantity over quality for sure. I'm not picky when it comes to tacos. But this was sooo bad. After I scooped off a pound of refried beans I could finally eat my mediocre taco. You can add guacamole (it's just mashed avacado though)Do yourself a favor. Go to the food trucks nextdoor or you could even drive 30 min to taco bell for better mexican.
